Votera is a field-organizing platform for political campaigns — it helps candidates and their volunteers plan canvassing routes, log conversations at the door, and coordinate their ground game in real time. This policy explains what information Votera collects, how we use it, and the choices and protections that apply.
Votera is built and operated by ThreeDay Digital / BIZIBIZI INC. ("Votera," "we," "us"). It applies to the Votera mobile apps (iOS and Android), the web app at app.votera.ca, and this website.
The short version. A campaign that uses Votera owns its data. We store and process that data on the campaign's behalf so their team can do their work — we do not sell it, we do not use it for advertising, and we protect it with encryption, hashed passwords, two-factor authentication, and role-based access.

1. Information we collect
Campaign & volunteer accounts
When a campaign sets up Votera, we collect information needed to create and run its account: the campaign or candidate name, ward or riding, and the names, usernames, email addresses, and phone numbers of the campaign staff and volunteers who are invited to the app. Passwords are never stored in readable form (see Security).
Voter contact data entered by the campaign
The core of Votera is a canvassing database that the campaign itself creates and controls. As volunteers knock doors, the campaign records information about the residents and voters they contact — this can include names, street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, support level, sign or volunteer interest, and free-text notes about the conversation. This data is uploaded by the campaign (for example, from a voter file) or entered by volunteers in the field. Votera stores it so the campaign's team can see and update it together.
Location data — only when you opt in
If a volunteer chooses to turn on location sharing, Votera uses their device location to show their live position on the campaign's field map and to tag which doors were visited. Location is collected only while the app is in use and only with the volunteer's permission; it can be turned off at any time in the app or in the device's settings.
Device & usage information
Like most apps, we collect basic technical information — device type, app version, and log data such as timestamps and error reports — to keep the service reliable and secure.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide the Votera service — sign-ins, the shared canvassing database, and syncing field updates across a campaign's team;
- Show the live team map and door-by-door progress to the campaign's organizers;
- Send account and coordination messages, including SMS one-time codes for two-factor authentication and, where enabled, push notifications;
- Keep the platform secure — detecting abuse, troubleshooting, and enforcing access controls;
- Provide customer support and communicate with campaign administrators.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use campaign or voter data for advertising or for any purpose other than operating the service for that campaign.
3. Data ownership
The campaign that uses Votera is the owner and controller of the voter and volunteer data in its account. Votera acts as a data processor — we hold and process that data strictly to provide the service on the campaign's behalf and under its instructions.
- Each campaign's data is kept in its own tenant and is not shared with other campaigns.
- The campaign decides who on its team may access the data, through Votera's admin and volunteer roles.
- A campaign administrator may request an export of their data, or ask us to delete their account and its data, at any time.
4. How information is shared
We share information only in limited ways:
- Within the campaign. Data is visible to the campaign's own authorized administrators and volunteers, according to the roles the campaign assigns.
- Service providers. We use trusted infrastructure partners to run Votera — including Supabase for secure database hosting and Twilio for sending SMS verification codes. These providers process data only to perform services for us.
- AI features (optional, consent-based). Some Votera features use third-party AI services, and only run after you explicitly agree in-app the first time you use them. When you use the AI script coach, daily brief, or note polish, we send the relevant resident's first name, support status, your door notes, and your campaign's public details (candidate, ward, tagline) to Anthropic (the Claude model) to generate the result. When you use voice dictation, your voice recording is sent to ElevenLabs for transcription, and the resulting text may be sent to Anthropic for translation or cleanup. This data is transmitted securely, used solely to generate your requested result, is not sold, and — per these providers' API terms — is not used to train their models. If you decline AI consent, no data is ever sent to these providers and every non-AI feature keeps working.
- Legal. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.
We never sell personal information to third parties.
5. Security & two-factor authentication
Protecting campaign and voter data is central to Votera:
- Encryption in transit. All connections to Votera are protected with HTTPS/TLS.
- Hashed passwords. Account passwords are stored only as salted bcrypt hashes and can never be viewed in plaintext — not even by us.
- Two-factor authentication (2FA). Votera supports SMS-based one-time codes to verify sign-ins and protect accounts.
- Role-based access. Data is locked down by tenant and role, so people see only what their campaign role permits.
No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we work continuously to safeguard the information entrusted to us.
6. Retention & deletion
We keep account and campaign data for as long as the campaign maintains an active Votera account, and as needed to provide the service. When a campaign closes its account or requests deletion, we delete or de-identify its data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records by law.
Delete your account in-app. Every Votera user can delete their own account directly in the app: tap your name in the header → Delete my account → type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes your login, profile, and sessions. If you are the only administrator of a small test campaign, the entire campaign (doors, residents, team, and messages) is deleted with it. For established campaigns, your personal account is removed and the campaign's data remains with the organization that owns it; the sole administrator of an established campaign is asked to appoint another administrator first, or may email info@votera.ca to delete the entire campaign.
7. Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information about you. Because campaigns own the data in their accounts, requests about voter or volunteer data are usually best directed to the campaign that collected it. You can also contact us and we will help route your request. Volunteers can turn location sharing on or off at any time, and can ask their campaign administrator to update or remove their account.
8. Children
Votera is a tool for campaign organizing and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice through the app or by email to campaign administrators.
